CHILDREN’S PROGRAMS DESCRIPTIONS
All-Stars I: All Stars is a weekly Bible study that uses different
material than Sunday School. It is designed to be activity oriented and
creative in scope. Group singing, and multi-media (videos) are used to help
relate Bible stories and truths to the children. There will be plenty of fun
learning activities related to the lesson.
All-Stars II: Will
primarily focus on making a craft related to the story from Session I.
Children’s Choir Session I: This choir time will be spent in teaching your child
music fundamentals. These are learned through various activities which include:
vocalizing and singing techniques, musical games, rhythm activities, body
movements, and instruments. The instruments will include percussion, *Orff,
handbells or choir chimes, and recorders.
Children’s Choir Session II: This time will be a concentration on learning choral
music to be sung during worship services, and other special services during the
year (such as the “Hanging of the Greens”). During the late winter and spring
months the focus will turn toward the dramatic musical that the children will
sing for the end-of-the-year program.
Children on Mission: Children will be involved in one of the main
ministries of the Christian church as they will study missionaries and
different places where missionaries work. Often their activities include
learning about different cultures and the life style other people live. There
are many hands on learning activities and the children can earn awards for
their work.
Music Maker’s Choir: This is the choir for preschooler beginning at age 3.
The children learn music fundamentals through a variety of activities.
Occasionally they may sing in worship or other special services throughout the
church year.
Mission Friends: Is a mission study geared specifically for preschool
age children. Through a variety of learning activities designed for their level
of comprehension, they will begin to learn about the mission work of the
church. Often they create gifts which they take to the nursing home or
homebound members of the church. We want them to learn that being a child of
God means helping others and being a friend to them.
*Orff: Orff
is a simple term that stands for Orff Schulwerk. It is a method of music education
mostly designed by an Austrian composer, Carl Orff. The instruments that are
used are pitched percussion instruments like a xylophone. Orff music education
involves the child using their entire body for musical development. This
includes physical, vocal, and aural activities.

COSTS:
There is no
charge for your child to participate in any of the programs here at SABC for
they are funded through the regular budget you give to through the weekly offerings.
However, we would appreciate help in
offsetting the cost of the after-school snacks when they arrive at the church.
We would like each child to pay $10.00
toward the cost of these drinks and snacks. This won’t cover the cost for the
year, but it does help to supplement.
MEALS:
We are
going to provide a child friendly supper each Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at a cost of $2.00 per meal. You may pay for these each Wednesday or in advance.
Unless there are some unforeseen cancellations (i.e. snow) there are 15 meals
(x $2 = $30) prior to Christmas break and 21 meals ( x $2=$42) January through
May. You can even pay for them by 1st semester , 2nd
semester, or the whole year in advance ($72).
Of course, if you prefer for your child to eat
from the church-wide, covered-dish meal they may do that for free as long as
your family is helping to provide food for that supper.
